The Management University of Africa (MUA) Open, Distance & eLearning (ODeL) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use and safeguard it, and the rights you have under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019.
1. Information we collect
- Application data name, email, phone, programme of interest and supporting documents you upload.
- Account & academic data registration details, units, results and fee records for enrolled students.
- Payment data transaction references processed through licensed payment providers (e.g. M-Pesa). We do not store full payment credentials.
- Technical data limited log and device information used to keep the service secure and reliable.
2. How we use your data
We use your data to process and assess applications, deliver academic and student services, communicate important updates, manage fees and payments, and meet our legal and regulatory obligations. We do not sell your personal data.
3. Lawful basis
We process personal data on the basis of your consent, the performance of our contract with you (your studies), our legitimate institutional interests, and compliance with the law.
4. Sharing & storage
Your data may be shared with authorised university staff and trusted service providers (such as hosting, payment and communication partners) strictly to deliver these services, under appropriate safeguards. Data is retained only as long as necessary for the purposes above or as required by law.
5. Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act, you have the right to be informed, to access your data, to correct or erase it, to object to or restrict processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, contact our Data Protection Officer below.
